Home Healthcare offers a wide range of healthcare services that can be administered in the home if you are recovering from surgery, or dealing with a newly diagnosed or chronic illness. Home Health services typically include skilled nursing, physical therapy, speech therapy, occupational therapy, medical social work, and in-home aide services.

Examples are people who need treatment for wounds, who need IV therapy, who must have rehabilitation after a knee or hip is replaced, or someone that needs help with their chronic condition such as COPD or CHF.

If you have a medical condition that requires the services of a registered nurse, physical therapist, or speech pathologist and you have difficulty leaving your home without substantial assistance, you may qualify for Home Health. However, you must have a doctor’s order to qualify for this benefit.

• Your first visit will be the longest, as we will focus on your initial assessment.
• Make sure you have all medications and “over-the-counter” supplements readily available on your first visit.
• Pay close attention to your caregiver’s instructions and adhere to the plan of care. Subsequent visits will be based on the plan of care.
• Your Home Health nurse or therapists will be available for any questions.

The doctor-ordered Home Health is typically covered 100% by Medicare; you may have a co-pay with some other insurance companies. We will inform you of any cost to you prior to starting care.

Your nurse will provide you with a reference guide of whom to call if you experience difficulties. However, if you are experiencing life threatening conditions, call 911 immediately.

The frequency of visits is based on the doctor’s orders and the patient’s needs and may vary from monthly to daily, but most commonly are one to two times a week. Visits typically last an hour or less, except for the initial assessment.

If the patient has a skilled need and a nurse, speech pathologist, or physical therapist, then the doctor may also order a home health aide to assist with personal care such as bathing, dressing, and shaving. Needing only personal care does not qualify for Home Health.

All medical supplies related to your condition will be supplied by the home health agency. Durable Medical Equipment will be ordered by your physician or at discharge from the hospital or nursing facility and is not the responsibility of the home health agency. It may be covered by Medicare or your health insurance.
